Digitimes, reports that HTC has projected a sales figure of 60M units in 2011. This number is triple the amount of the current 20M sales this year. According to Digitimes, HTC is in talks with suppliers to produce additional components and parts for smartphones to hit its 2011 projections. Gartner cut its forecast of PC market growth from 17.9% to 14.3% for 2010, partly due to the rise of tablets. They revised their 2011 projections from 18.1% to 15.9% or 409 million units. They go onto state that media tablets are expected to displace around 10% of PC units by 2014. Consumers are embracing better on the go devices for content consumption (both tablets and smartphones) that could cause a significant dent to PC sales, according to Gartner.

IDC predicts that the global smartphone growth would spike by a further 10% than previously forecasted to add up to 55.4% this year vis-à-vis 09. Greater than expected demand for smartphones and the supply side catching up with new launches are the cause for the revised projections by IDC. The firm expects 269.6 million smartphones to be shipped by the end of 2010 compared to 173.5 million units shipped in 2009.
