Google Wallet Now Available to Select Users

Google, who unveiled their NFC product, Wallet, in May, is now making it available to the public. It’s currently only for Sprint Nexus S 4G owners via an over-the-air software update. Along with launch partners Citi and MasterCard that’s compatible with Wallet currently, Google adds Visa, Discover and American Express to future versions of Google Wallet.

PayPal Unveils Peer-to-Peer NFC Payments for Android

At MobileBeat, 2011, Paypal demoed their update for their Paypal Mobile app that enables Android users to make peer-to-peer payments just by tapping their devices together. This NFC enabled payment mode is available in the U.S. for the Samsung Nexus S currently, and would be more widespread soon as more Android devices support the NFC functionality.

20% of Smartphones to be NFC Capable by 2014

Juniper, forecasts that 1 in 5 or upto 300 Million smartphones globally would be NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled by 2014. By then the U.S is estimated to account for 50% of such smartphones. The short-term global growth would be fueled by carriers launching NFC services in 20 early adopting markets such as France, US and Europe.

AT&T, Verizon & T-Mobile Collude to Build Mobile Payment Service ‘Isis’

CollaborationBig U.S mobile operators, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile are collaborating to launch a nationwide mobile commerce network called the Isis. Its objective is to render the wallet holding paper cash, variety of cards such as credit, debit and loyalty obsolete. Isis enables users to make point of sale purchases by just waving their smartphones (ones with integrated radio microchip) against the retailer’s reader. This near-field-communication (NFC) leveraged service would be released over the next 18 months in various parts of U.S.
