Android Ad Revenues Outpaces Apple for the First Time on Millennial Media’s Ad Network

mellenial-media-logoMobile Ad Network, Millennial Media, published their Mobile Mix series report for September, 2010 and finds that for the first time on their network, Android advertisement revenue outpaced that of Apple’s. iOS is still the top OS powering all Apple devices and accounted for 46% of total ad impressions on the ad network, while Android and Blackberry trail at 29% and 19% respectively.

Android Ad Click Throughs Significantly Higher than iPhone

android_logoChitika, an online ad network states that Android users are 80% more valuable than iPhone users. Android users click on more ads with Android OS click thru rates (CTRs) at 1.187% compared to iPhones’ 0.654% based on a sample of 1.3 M ad impressions across its network. iPad has a much higher click thrus than iPhones at 1.010%, says Chitika.

Mobile Ad Company Medialets Closes $6M Series B

medialets-logoMedialets, a mobile ad startup best known for its ‘shakeable’ Dockers ad and other ‘in-app’ ads has raised $6M in a series B round. The round was led by its first round funders Foundry Group + DFJ Gotham and backed up by 500 Startups. The startup aims to utilize this money to ‘evolve the Medialets’ platform to meet the phenomenal demand for high-value mobile rich media’, thereby extending its reach beyond the current Apple and Android platforms.

Android Overtakes iPhone in Ad CTR: Smaato

smaato_logoSmaato, the mobile ad measurement firm says that U.S based consumers who own Android phones are clicking more ads than the ones with iPhones. In May, 2010, Android clocked a click thru rate (CTR) of 118 compared to 111 by iPhones. Symbiam still tops the CTR on the Smaato index with a measure of 316. Just the previous month iPhone was ahead of Android on click thru rates.

Symbian O.S Leads in Mobile Ad Click Through Rates Globally

symbian-logoSmaato, a mobile ad and ad optimization company, released its March data on global mobile ad click through rates. The index tracks worldwide CTR based on handset operating systems. Symbian O.S leads the ad click throughs followed by feature phone (non smart phones with proprietary OS), Windows phone, Apple iPhone/iPod and Android.

Ads to Cost a Bomb On iAd

iAd_platformApple is going to charge a premium for advertisers/marketers on their mobile ad network, iAd. It may cost advertisers’ upto $1million dollars for their ads to be featured on iPhones and later on iPads. To partake during the launch of iAd, marketers may have to cough up a sum of $10 million. The average cost for a similar deal on other mobile ad networks currently is said to be around $100k-$200k.
