Mobile and Social Media Commerce to Have a Significant Effect this Holiday Shopping Season

Mobile-holiday-shoppingIDC states that MSM Commerce would account for 28% or $127 Billion of the predicted consumer retail spend of $447 Billion by the National Retail Foundation (NRF) for the holiday season, 2010 in the U.S. The survey explored the comfort levels of consumers in conducting mobile and social commerce and finds that consumers engage retailers in the own terms ‘within arm’s reach of merchandise at the moment of their buying decision’

IDC Raises Smartphones Growth Projection by 10% for 2010

smartphonesIDC predicts that the global smartphone growth would spike by a further 10% than previously forecasted to add up to 55.4% this year vis-à-vis 09. Greater than expected demand for smartphones and the supply side catching up with new launches are the cause for the revised projections by IDC. The firm expects 269.6 million smartphones to be shipped by the end of 2010 compared to 173.5 million units shipped in 2009.

Global Mobile Phone Market Bounces Back

mobile-devicesInternational Data Corporation’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker states that the global mobile phone market grew by nearly 22% this quarter (Q1, 2010). Growth was mainly fueled by the demand for smartphones, which enabled most markets to bounce back stronger from a contraction in the previous quarter. IDC notes that vendors shipped nearly 295 million units as compared to 242 million units in the same quarter a year ago.
