Apple Official Numbers: 300K+ iPads Sold on Saturday; Nearly 1 Mil Apps downloaded
By: Prashanth Shantharam  |  6, April 2010

Steve_JobsIn the previous post, we’d reported a bloated figure of 600-700K iPad sales on Saturday, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster’s estimate. His earlier forecasted sales of 300k+ units was spot on, with Apple confirming the news in a press release yesterday. This is only the Wi-Fi unit sales with the 3G version expected in a few weeks.

The number of tablets sold mirrors the sales of iPhones (270K on opening day) in 2007, when the device was first launched.

Apple’s official statement states, “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.” This means 300K+ * 3~~1 Million Apps downloaded!

Here is Apple’s Press Release

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 5 — Apple® today announced that it sold over 300,000 iPads in the US as of midnight Saturday, April 3. These sales included deliveries of pre-ordered iPads to customers, deliveries to channel partners and sales at Apple Retail Stores. Apple also announced that iPad users downloaded over one million apps from Apple’s App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day.
“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world — it’s going to be a game changer,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”

"Mobile is fundamentally reshaping how we as consumers spend from housing and healthcare to entertainment and travel, from food and drinks to communication and transportation. Mobile not only influences purchase behavior but also post purchase opinions. When the share button is literally a second away, consumers are willingly sharing more information than ever before. Mobile is thus helping close the nirvana gap for brands and advertisers who seek to connect advertising to actual transactions. The long-term battle is however for owning the context of the users. Having the best knowledge about the user to help drive the transaction is the simply the most valuable currency of commerce.” -- Chetan Sharma State of Global Mobile Industry Report1H, 2011
