Mobile Commerce to Balloon by 60% in 2012: eBay

At the CES convention last night in Vegas, eBay’s John Donahue gave a keynote where he predicted that m-commerce market would surge by 60% this year. He forecasts purchases made from apps or the mobile web would touch $8 billion in revenue in 2012; a spike of 60% from a $5B revenue run rate in 2011.

Other key data points from his talk include

  • eBay Mobile app has been downloaded more than 65 million times across all platforms.
  • Nearly 900K new eBay shoppers made their first eBay purchase through eBay’s mobile apps in 2011, a spike of 113% y-o-y.
