Google Invests in Milk
By: Prashanth Shantharam  |  7, November 2011

Kevin Rose’s app incubator firm, Milk, drew another round of investment from Google, soon after they’d closed a seed round to the tune of $1.5M. The seed round for Milk was funded by a slew of investors including Chris Sacca, Ron Conway and Michael Arrington to name a few. Milk unleashed their first app, Oink, a week ago.

Oink allows users to rate and discover new things. Google Maps is an integral part of Oink and Kevin Rose wants to incorporate more of Google products, going forward.

Rose says

“We started talking to Google after we closed our round, but decided to open it up for them as they’ve been adding a ton of value right away.”

"Mobile is fundamentally reshaping how we as consumers spend from housing and healthcare to entertainment and travel, from food and drinks to communication and transportation. Mobile not only influences purchase behavior but also post purchase opinions. When the share button is literally a second away, consumers are willingly sharing more information than ever before. Mobile is thus helping close the nirvana gap for brands and advertisers who seek to connect advertising to actual transactions. The long-term battle is however for owning the context of the users. Having the best knowledge about the user to help drive the transaction is the simply the most valuable currency of commerce.” -- Chetan Sharma State of Global Mobile Industry Report1H, 2011
