AdMob Unveils New Tablet Ad Formats
By: Prashanth Shantharam  |  26, May 2011

Google announced new ad formats particularly targeted for tablet advertising, enabling advertisers and publishers to serve cross platform (iOS + Android) banner and HTML5 based full screen interstitial ads. They also revealed how their ad network AdMob is performing since its acquisition almost a year ago.

According to TechCrunch, AdMob’s ad requests have grown over 3.5X in the last year. There were 2.7 B ad requests globally in April and the service caters to over 80K mobile websites and apps.

On the tablet front, the ad traffic has surged 300% on AdMob’s network over the last six months, and could be the key driver for the release of these new ad formats.

Google states that these ads could be targeted by demo and location segmentations, and also that ads could be integrated easily and directly into an app!

"Mobile is fundamentally reshaping how we as consumers spend from housing and healthcare to entertainment and travel, from food and drinks to communication and transportation. Mobile not only influences purchase behavior but also post purchase opinions. When the share button is literally a second away, consumers are willingly sharing more information than ever before. Mobile is thus helping close the nirvana gap for brands and advertisers who seek to connect advertising to actual transactions. The long-term battle is however for owning the context of the users. Having the best knowledge about the user to help drive the transaction is the simply the most valuable currency of commerce.” -- Chetan Sharma State of Global Mobile Industry Report1H, 2011
