More Than 1 Out Of 4 Photos + Videos Now Taken on Smartphones

NPD Group, conducted an online survey of over 3.3K U.S Internet users aged 13 years and over, and find that 27% of pics and videos are now captured on smartphones. NPD also finds that smartphones are replacing basic aim-and-shoot cameras; as there is no need to carry an additional device to capture ‘spontaneous moments’.

iPhone Sales Forecasted to Touch 111 M in 2012

Susquehanna’s Jeffrey Fidacaro forecasts iPhone sales to touch 111.4 M in fiscal 2012, with another blow-out quarter ahead where its expected to clock 30.3M units. They have revised and upped their projections by nearly 10% based on the demand for the device, with iPhone 4S fueling record smartphone sales.

700K Android Devices Activated Everyday

Android Chief, Andy Rubin, announced that the number of android devices activated daily currently stands at 700,000. Back in just June this year, the number of Android activations was clocking 500,000 per day. Around the same time last year, Android activations were at 300,000 per day. The android ascendancy continues.

Youtube’s rewind 2011 is out. Aatma Studio’s massive hit ‘iPhone 5 Concept Features’, which is now clocking nearly 40 M views, is the most watched Science/Tech video of 2011. Tablets Talk During the Holiday Season [Infographic]

Meltwater Group gathered buzz from social media to track down the conversation around most wanted tablets. The results aren’t very surprising. iPad was the most desired with 62% of the users intended to purchase Apple’s tablet, while 38% wanted Amazon’s Kindle. Not bad for Kindle’s Fire to have garnered significant mindspace already.

U.S Teens Triple Their Data Consumption The Past Year: Nielsen

Nielsen, finds that U.S teens have more than tripled their data consumption in the past year (Q3, 2010 to Q3, 2011). Texting the top activity they indulge in and lead all the other demos by a mile. Voice usage is on the decline for teens, as messaging is ‘faster, easier and more fun’ for them.

Flipboard for iPhones Clocks 1M Downloads in a Week

Flipboard, which lauched its iPhone app only a week ago is boasting of 1M downloads in just a week. The iPhone app is also witnessing more flips than its iPad counterpart. All in all, Flipboard is on course to clocking over 2B flips per month, nearly 25B flips/year at the same pace of growth.

Developers Make 4X More Revenue on iOS Than Android: Flurry

Mobile analytics firm, Flurry, finds that despite Android’s dominance in terms of smarphone share and daily activations, developers make much more money on the iOS platform than on Android. The ratio skews nearly 4:1 in favour of iOS. This also translates to more iOS projects started than Android.
